In memoriam Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau (1925-2012)

Enormously sad news today that Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, to my mind the greatest singer of the age of recording, has passed away at the age of 86. A man of such innate musicality it almost defied explanation, and one of my musical heroes.

In his memory, a performance of Schubert’s song ‘Fischerweise’ with Sviatoslav Richter.
